Spring has Sprung

Spring time! Spring time! It’s here. Well technically, its first official day was on March 21st. But hey, we are still spring. I can still see buds blossoming and flowers blooming. The grasses are green.

As a photographer, Spring season is one of my favorite season. You may ask why? It’s because of the colors. The spring color is just as wonderful as the Fall colors. Seeing the flowers bloom is alway a sight to see, well, minus the allergies (especially if you are from the valley). Besides that, flowers are always great subject when there’s no one else. Personally, I don’t get tired taking photos of them; for as long as they are of different variety.

To honor the spring season, I browsed my drive to see what were the different flower shots that I had. Last year alone, I did about 10 or so flower shots. Can you imagine? But hey, I made sure that I, at least tried to follow Scott Kelby’s suggestion in his book Digital Photography. And, that is to shoot flowers differently than the norm. Well, let’s see if I did it.:)

Oh, I just wished that I should have known the names of these different variety of flowers. It would have been easier to identify what they are in the following photos. I admit, I failed in that particular aspect.

Enjoy!!!!

Since I have started photography, I have learned that one way of mastering your craft is by participating in challenges or at least by sharing what your latest creations are to other photo enthusiast. By doing so, it allows you to be inspired and even hear feedbacks from those who share the same passion/interest as you do.

And so, here I am…It’s another round of whether I have clicked up a notch on my photography. And the answer? OH YES!!! I sure did!

I always envy other photographers how they are able to produce those tack sharp photos, you know, where the subject and colors just pop. I always wondered how they do it. I know, it starts with the proper settings and correct focus. I have done that but it’s not coming out like how I want it to. I’ve tried actions but it’s still not producing the product that I wanted.

For the month of March, I challenged myself. Timely, I had a collaborative shoot with Bycane and Michelle Kinkaid (thank you for inviting me to join you). During that shoot, I was determined to have fun but I made sure that when the shoot started, I was ready and my settings were ready as well. Alas, everything went well with that shoot as planned.

And as a bonus, I was quite lucky that it was the day after my first day of watching Sue Bryce. So, not only I used some new settings like using Kelvin as my White Balance, I get to incorporate the things that I have learned from her. When it comes to editing, I have finally produced a photo without relying so much on Actions or Presets. And that is a TRIPLE YAHOO/YAY for me.

Actually selecting a photo for this shot was quite hard but I’ll go with one of Kelsey (although shots from Tabitha’s were as great and as beautiful). The subject in this photo just popped like how I wanted it to be. The colors were amazing as well. And those eyes? I love how they were very sharp. I am immediately drawn to them when I look at the photo. It’s as if they were talking to me.

Head on over to Click It Up a Notch to see who has upped their notch for this month.

Marshall Family I Sacramento Family Photographer

It all started when my co-worker Christin came by the office to visit along with her newborn baby, Dominic. It was my chance to hand her the cd that contained the photos that I took of her son when he was ten days old. She then showed it to my co-workers in the other office.

As soon as her visit was over, I immediately received an email inquiring if I can photograph her family. They haven’t had a family portrait in a long time. I was surprised and thought she was just kidding. But she was really not! In fact, she was really serious. Then, from there, we set the date, time and location.

It was such a pleasure to meet the entire family. I had so much fun shooting them. Aside from the fact that they are one beautiful family, they were fun to work with as well. They made it easier for me to shoot at high noon on a summer day (a photographer’s not-so favorite time of the day to do shoots).

Alycia – Sacramento Portrait Photographer

When I first started this venture, I’ve always photographed people while with a group of other photographers. From that experience, I always learn so many things. But just like any living creature, there will be a point where you want to be free and do things on your own.

At first, I was hesitant. I was not that confident that I’d be able to pull it through. I was a little apprehensive that I would mess up this opportunity – to be free and without depending on others.

Then came Alycia. We were both on the same page when we knew each other. I was in the process of building my portfolio and she, on the otherhand is doing the same thing. With one goal in our minds, we met and did the shoot!

After a few hours of shoot, little bruises here and there (after climbing rugged rocks to reach our desired location), add in bits of laughter and of course multi-tasking at its finest, I knew we’ve achieved what we’ve hoped for.

To Alycia, thank you for trusting me. I had so much fun working with you! Your positive vibes and fun energy made my job a whole lot easier. And oh, I think I have mentioned this to you before, but I’ll mention it again! You are gorg and you have the best skin and cheekbone….ever!!!:)

And from this whole experience, I have learned that it is okay to do things on your own (although working with one or two is good as well). There is absolutely no reason to be scared and hesitant. You just have to remember to TRUST in what you can do and BELIEVE in yourself. Once in a while, it is important for us to engage and do things like this. Eventually, it will help us learn and discover what we can really do. It’ll even help us push to exceed our expectations.

Ella – West Sacramento Children Photographer

When it comes to cutie pies, I really can’t resist. I know I am loaded with one because of Madison but that’s not just a reason not to be exuded by other babies’ cuteness.

With that said, meet Ella. It was on her first birthday that I get to photograph her. It was a way of saying thank you to her and to her family for inviting Madison over on her first birthday party. But really, the reason is because, I can’t resist her cuteness. She’s too adorable and cute not to be photographed. Oh, and those blue eyes? Simply beautiful! I don’t get to take photos of people with eyes her like hers very often.
